5 Things You Need to Do to Get Your Bike Ready for Summer
We’re in the business of making things go fast. We started our company because motorcycles are what we love and what we’re good at. As a married couple running a small business, we’ve seen a lot over the years. Jeff started out working as a mechanic, which led to Moto Z, and Deanna’s father was instrumental in that. Deanna added what she learned from her father to help balance the books and manage the business side of things. Eventually, we started selling apparel, accessories, and parts out of our shop. Then, we started our online store! Now we sell products from all over the world to other bike lovers all over the world!
Today on the blog, we’re taking it back to our roots and focusing on summer bike prep. If you or someone you know is within a few hours of Buffalo, New York, and you need bike service, you’re in the right place. Jeff is seasoned in all things 2-wheeled, and he can certainly get your bike up to speed, or upgrade it’s speed. Let’s talk about a few things you need to make sure you get done before your first ride!
Check Your Tires
One of the easiest and brainless things you must do is check your tires. Ideally, you’ve stored your bike and winterized it properly, but when the sun starts to come out in the spring, you should always check your tires for things like dry rot, expansion/pressure, and check the tread to make sure you’ll be good all summer long, like Kid Rock.
Get Some Fresh Oil
You’ll want to get a fresh oil change and oil filter with the new season. You should also monitor your coolant levels to prevent any potential overheating. If you’ve been around the block, you can probably handle changing your own oil, but if you need a hand, we’ll always be here.
Get Some Professional Eyes on Your Brakes
Check the levels and clarity of your brake fluid levels. If you don’t know what you’re looking for, ask a buddy who does, or talk to a professional WNY motorcycle mechanic. Inspect your brake pads and make sure that they’re safe and in good shape. Any grinding or metal means it’s time for new ones.
Electrical & Battery
If you stored your bike properly, you shouldn’t have any issues. It’s always good to do an early check on your battery and electrical stuff. These are things that you can forget about and need to change at the last second when you’re ready to roll out on the first ride.
Chain & Cables
Inspect your chain and cables. Check for any fraying on the cables and make sure your chain isn’t loose. You’ll want to make sure you clean it, tighten it, and lubricate the chain in the beginning of the season to prevent any breakage. Better safe than sorry!
