Have you SEEN this bike yet? Motorcycle News is calling the Ducati 1299 Superleggera “The Most Savage Superbike Ever.” Everyone here at Moto Z would have to agree. As the number one Ducati maintenance shop in New York, we got our start working on the best superbikes in the world. We wanted to talk about this new bike, some of the features, bells & whistles because this is exciting, to say the least!

Enhanced Power

The engine is a 1285cc 8v L-twin, with torque up to 108ftlb@9000rpm. Have you ever ridden something like that?? The carbon fiber body weighs only 156kg dry, with 215bhp, making it possibly the most powerful production twin-cylinder in the world, in terms of power-to-weight ratio. Without wheelying or spinning side to side, the Corse-developed Bosch IMU-controlled electronics allows you to power forward with enhanced ‘slide control.’ This makes it hard to get the throttle completely to the stop. Superbikes have become easy to ride, but this is about as close as you can get to a factory race bike

Lighter Than Your Wife

Okay, maybe not, but it’s possible. Though you might imagine a carbon chassis riding with clumsy stiffness, this bike is unbelievable light and hollow. The bike is 167kg wet, and with a full 17-liter tank, it gets up to 178kg. The Yamaha MT-07, comparable, makes 146bhp less and weighs 4kg more. Let that sink in for a minute. Here’s what Alessandro Valia, Official Ducati Test Rider for all models in production (JEALOUS) had to say about the body/handling. The use of so much carbon has helped to further reduce the weight, but the lower inertia of the wheels had an even greater influence on handling: changes of direction are lightning-fast and the braking amazingly powerful.

Exclusive & Innovative

The electronics on this bike are like nothing else in the world. Ducati features an exclusive electronic package that uses an inertial platform system with 6 axes. The inertial package made it possible to continue the advancement of the Ducati Traction Control EVO (DTC EVO), along with the Ducati Slide Control (DSC). If you’re wondering how to get your hands on the Ducati 1299 Superleggera, you’re already too late. Coming in at a steep £72,000, which equates to around $93,000. There were only 500 made in the world, and even if you had an extra hundred g’s laying around, Ducati already sold out of this beast. So, yeah, unfortunately, this bike is something essentially untouchable. But Ducati proves yet again that they are also untouchable.
