Moto Z is your go to provider for Zero electric motorcycles in Western New York. We carry new and used models and you can always stop by the shop to test drive. Zero motorcycles were the first on the road, and we consider them to be the top quality electric motorcycle for sale. Harley-Davidson, of all brands, recently came out with their version of the electric bike. Who woulda thought! Here’s a few things about the Harley LiveWire™.

Harley LiveWire™ Price Tag

When you’re going with one of the most recognizable brands on the market, you’re going to see some price inflation. Despite all the many bells and whistles that the LiveWire boasts, the price tag is the first thing that jumps out at us. The Harley LiveWire™ is available for pre sale right now, starting at a menial $29,799. That’s almost triple what even in the middle of the road Zero bikes start at.

Only 110 Estimated All Electric Mileage

Though the Harley sports the famous name and some of the chunkier character that a Harley only could, the all-electric range currently estimates at about 110 miles of mixed city/highway riding. The Zero SR, which comes in about $10k cheaper than the LiveWire, offers 120 mile mixed city/highway.

Did we mention you can test ride any of our Zero motorcycles anytime?

Test Drive a Harley LiveWire™ Today.. Maybe

The high tech nature of an electric motorcycle may not be for everyone just yet, but for us, we think they’re pretty cool. There’s something really exciting about riding one, even for the most experienced rider. When the Harley Davidson LiveWire comes out.. In the fall, you’ll be able to test drive one yourself.

That’s if you can find one.

According the Electrek, Harley is in the process of preparing their dealerships for the new electric motorcycle.

The company plans to have at least one dealership in all 50 states carrying the LiveWire, and more in large metropolitan areas. In order for dealers to carry the LiveWire, they must meet a list of requirements including most importantly installing DC fast charging on-site and maintaining a dedicated staff of LiveWire sales reps.

Harley-Davidson received such an enthusiastic response from dealers regarding the LiveWire that they are still in the process of narrowing down options and deciding which dealerships will get the new electric motorcycles.

You could wait around and hope to get your hands on a Harley-Davidson LiveWire electric motorcycle. You could hope that someone in WNY gets a few in stock this Fall, when the Bills are already halfway through another 8-8 season. You could even pay 30k for an electric motorcycle. But you don’t have to…. Stop in Moto Z and test drive one of our electric motorcycles anytime you want! We have a selection of new and used Zero Electric Bikes that will knock your socks off!

Electric motorcycles continue to grow in popularity with each passing year.  Yet, it seems like riders still have a lot of questions about these battery powered bikes.  For this reason we decided to put together information detailing some benefits electric motorcycles have over their gas powered counterparts.  Here 7 things you should consider if you’re deciding what type of motorcycle to purchase.

Saving The Environment

One of the main draws of electric motorcycles is the green initiative.  Thanks to companies like Zero Electric Motorcycles, frequent riders are given a viable clean-energy alternative to their gas powered motorcycles.  If you want to keep riding and protect the planet by reducing emissions, then an ebike is the perfect fit for you.

Save On Gas

Going green is great but most riders will be more interested in saving “green” by avoiding the gas pumps.  Some naysayers may point to the fact that you will still be paying for fuel, just in the form of electricity instead of gas.  This is true but the numbers aren’t even comparable. It has been estimated that you can get the same amount of travel on an electric motorcycle with only a couple dollars that you could with $50 dollars of gasoline!

Instant Power

The biggest performance difference you’ll notice with one of Zero’s motorcycles is the instant torque.  Unlike a traditional gas bike where you have to get the engine rolling before you hit the clutch for more power, an e-bike doesn’t require buildup and instead will apply a steady acceleration.  This may feel a little strange to seasoned riders when they go electric the first time but it’s pretty easy to get used to.

Low Maintenance

Most motorcycle enthusiasts put a lot of care into their rides to make sure they’re in the best shape.  Typical maintenance checks for an electric motorcycle however are almost trivial. This is because they cut out a lot of the common culprits that require a little extra time and money now and then.  You won’t have to worry about replacing air filters, spark plugs or changing your oil because those parts aren’t even there!

Quiet Ride

We’ll leave this up to you to determine if this is a benefit or not.  With no exhaust pipe or engine sound, electric motorcycles move along almost silently.  Some riders might miss the roar of the gas powered engine but there are others who find it a bit disruptive.  Additionally, ebikes will allow you to chat with your comrades while you’re out riding around.

Battery Life

It seems there is a bit of misconception when it comes to the longevity of these bikes.  While it’s true that they aren’t ideal for longer rides or cross country treks, the battery life of electric motorcycles is better than most people think.  Zero has several models that boast a range of over 100 miles including the 2020 Zero SRF and the 2019 Zero SR.

Upfront Cost

Some consider e-motorcycles to be an expensive investment because the market and technology are still fairly new.  However, you have to consider the money you’re saving over the lifespan of the bike from fuel costs and maintenance alone.  You might actually find you come out ahead compared to if you had gone with a cheaper gas powered bike. Additionally, the initial price should continue to fall in the coming years as technology improves and other competitors flood the market to compete with Zero Motorcycles.

If you’ve been wrestling with the decision of going electric with your next motorcycle we hope this blog helped paint a clearer picture what you’d get.  If you’d like to get a feel for one in person, drop by our shop to schedule a test drive with some of our newest models. Our expert staff will also be able to answer any other questions you might have about owning an electric motorcycle.

It’s not surprising that every year the electric motorcycle market continues to grow.  Thanks in large part to Zero Motorcycles, riders now have more viable alternatives to gas powered bikes.  As the technology gets better and battery efficiency grows, it might not be too long before electric bikes become the standard.  In fact, with the release of the new 2020 Zero SR/F many experts in the industry are claiming that the future of motorcycles is electric.  Here’s a little background on what makes the new Zero SR/F so special.

So What’s Different?

Zero Motorcycles have been improving their bikes year to year with mostly minor upgrades to previous versions.  That isn’t the case with the 2020 SR/F though. This bike was built from the ground up and boasts the most impressive specifications of any electric motorcycle on the market.  With its 110 horsepower and 140 ft-lbs of torque, this bike is powerful enough to stack up against its gas powered cousins. With a top speed of 124 mph, you won’t have to go gas to go fast.

Additionally, the engineers at Zero Motorcycles have boosted the range of the 2020 SR/F as well as its power.  It now supports up to 161 highway miles and 99 city miles on a charge that will only cost you $1.61! So not only will stand up in terms of power, it does so without compromising efficiency.  Depending on where and how frequently your ride, it may even be your most cost effective option.

What About The Price?

The upgraded performance of this Zero SR/F motorcycle doesn’t come without cost.  The price point sits at around $20,000 which is a bit steeper than other Zero models like the 2019 Zero FXS or the 2019 Zero S motorcycle.  Though this is a significant investment, it still figures to be around $10,000 cheaper than the new Harley Davidson Livewire electric motorcycle set to release later this year.  Compound that with the savings of riding a premium electric motorcycle and the investment becomes a little less daunting. In fact, if you’re looking to use the Zero SR/F as a commuter bike, it will wind up paying for itself after 5-7 years on fuel and maintenance savings alone.

If you’re looking to get on board with the biggest trend in the motorcycle industry, Zero electric motorcycles are the way to go.  At Moto Z we pride ourselves on being able to offer the newest electric motorcycle models on the market from Zero. Whether you’re looking to jump right in with the 2020 SR/F or want to dip your feet with an older model, we’ve got you covered.  Drop by our shop and schedule a test drive today to see these amazing ebikes in person.

Whether you are a long time rider or new to motorcycles, now is the perfect time to think about going electric.  Zero Electric Motorcycles has been the industry leader in electric bikes for over a decade and the new 2019 model lineup is pretty stellar.  The updates they make each year to their core series continue to make electric motorcycles more and more of a viable option. 2019 is a great time to drop in to Moto Z to check out these bikes in person. You might be surprised but what you see and a quick test drive may be just enough to sway you if you’ve been on the fence for a while.  Here’s a short description of what you’ll find with 4 of the hottest new Zero motorcycles that we have available here at Moto Z.

2019 Zero SR

Performance and capacity are the two major questions raised by riders before they dive into the world of ebikes.  If you share either of these concerns, your fears will be put to rest by the new 2019 Zero SR. One of the most powerful electric motorcycles on the market, the Zero SR boasts 116 ft-lbs of torque and tops out at 102 mph; more than enough giddy up for most riders.  Additionally, the SR’s battery life is the perfect complement to its power. It sports the longest range of any electric motorbike with up to 223 city miles on a full charge or 112 miles highway. This combination of power and battery capacity is what makes the Zero SR perhaps the most popular choice for riders looking to avoid hitting the gas stations this year.

2019 Zero FXS

This bike is the perfect entry level model for riders who are unfamiliar with ebikes.  As a cheaper alternative to the Zero SR it loses some the exceptional performance but it is still a great choice for those looking to go green and save money on fill-ups.  The Zero FXS model is known for its command and control capabilities. Its lightweight frame allows for easy maneuvering around traffic and makes this electric motorcycle a top choice for city commuters.  Just think about all the money that can be saved with a range of around 100 miles in the city with a mere cost of $0.81 for a full charge!

2018 Zero FX

The best part about Zero’s lineup of electric motorcycles is that there is a model designed for every type of rider, including off-road enthusiasts.  The 2018 Zero FX model is a favorite for trail riders who often find themselves on less than pristine roads. The Zero FX has remarkable braking power for its size which every off-roader knows is essential.  On top of that, the electric motor means there’s no shifting, so your ebike will be impossible to stall.

2018 Zero DSR

Zero even offers a competitive electric dual sport model.  The Zero DSR brings you a solid balance between the streetwise Zero SR and the off-road focused Zero FX.  This is the most versatile electric motorcycle Zero offers which makes it ideal for the adventurous rider.  The DSR allows you to swap between Eco, Sport and Custom modes so that your bike can be perfectly tuned for whatever type of riding you enjoy most.

Zero Electric Motorcycles offers a diverse new lineup that will let any rider find the ebike that suits their style.  And the best part is, we have all of these models available to you right at Moto Z; your local Buffalo area motorcycle shop.  Drop in to our store so that you can experience the feel of these new electric motorcycles in person. Call Moto Z at 716-714-9708 to set up a test drive today!

Spring is finally here and that means it’s time to get your motorcycle out of storage.  This is always an exciting time for riders in our area as the Buffalo winter can be depressing and seems to last forever.  We know you’re excited to get in that first ride of the season but we want to take a moment to remind you all to be safe out there.

For this month’s blog we want to touch on riding safety and the importance of proper braking.  If you’re in the market for a quick upgrade before the season gets too far along, we have a couple of products that are sure improve your bike’s overall braking performance.

Braking Safety Tips

Braking has always been one of the most important things every rider needs to focus on.  Whether you’re an experienced pro or new to riding it never hurts to think over some fundamental braking tips.  This is especially crucial this time of year as the roads can still be slick with water from snow melt. Here are 5 general tips to keep in mind as you get ready for your first ride:

  • Keep your brake application around 70/30 percent strength between your front and rear brakes respectively.
  • Don’t follow too close to other traffic.  Follow the 3 second rule when behind other cars so that you have enough time to stop.  Extra space will also make you more visible so that the driver ahead of you doesn’t forget you’re there.
  • Make sure you’re covering your brake.  Pick whatever grip is most comfortable to you (most riders choose either a 2 or 4 finger approach).  This will improve your brake reflexes because your hand will already be in position to start applying brake power at a moment’s notice.
  • Work on honing your staged braking skill.  This incremental braking practice will lower the risk of your front wheel locking up.
  • Pay attention to the conditions of the road.  You should make conscious adjustments to the previous steps to allow for a longer stopping distance if the road is wet or icy.

Improve Your Braking Power

Galfer Brakes

If you have followed along with our blog in the past you know that we’re big fans of the patented Galfer Wave Rotors.  You already know that Galfer rotors are the best in the business because their unique technology maximizes your bike’s braking power.  But did you know Galfer USA also offers other premium braking products? Galfer brake lines all have steel braided hoses which offer better durability and brake response over time.  Galfer brake pads on the other hand are softer and intentionally less durable than standard OEM brake pads.  This might sound like a detriment but softer brake pads reduce wear and tear to your rotors which are much more expensive and difficult to replace.

Clake Clutch

Clake’s philosophy when it comes to their motorcycle clutch products is all about adding convenience and security to your ride at the same time.  Clake is known for their “easy pull” clutching and braking handles that make shifting and stopping a breeze. We’ve seen a lot of riders add a Clake rear brake handle to their bike to help make braking more consistent compared to the standard rear brake pedal.

As always rider safety is our primary concern at Moto Z.  We want to take a moment to encourage you to consider the state of your braking systems.  If you think it might be time for an upgrade, check out some of the cool products we have available that will give you a smooth and safe ride this spring.

Winter isn’t usually a fun time for motorcycle enthusiasts around Buffalo NY.  The snow forces us to put our bikes in winter storage and wait for the hope of an early spring.  The only thing we can really do is work on our bikes so that they’ll be ready to go when the snow melts.  If you’re looking for an upgrade, Moto Z has a selection of top of the line motorcycle accessories that are sure to improve your bike’s performance this year.  Here are 5 types of motorcycle gear from some leading manufacturers in the industry that you can get right now from Moto Z.

BST Motorcycle Wheels

BlackStone Tek is a pioneer in developing custom motorcycle wheels.  Using carbon fiber to make their motorcycle rims is what sets BST apart from the rest of the pack.  Carbon fiber is an incredibly strong material and will be a durability improvement compared to your current aluminum or magnesium motorcycle rims.  Additionally, these BST custom motorcycle wheels are lighter which makes for improved control and easier braking. If you’re looking for a way to boost your bike’s performance this season, BST carbon fiber wheels are a great option.

Galfer Brakes

Galfer USA burst into the world of motorcycle gear by making high quality braking systems.  Their patented Galfer Wave Rotors changed the game for high performance braking in the motorcycle industry.  The slotted design of Galfer rotors is what makes them unique. This allows for better heat dissipation, a cleaner braking surface, and of course more braking power.  Whether you’re into racing or casual riding, Galfer brakes are the safest way to go.

Clake Clutch

Shifting and braking are two of the most important skills any rider must have.  You might feel comfortable with your bike’s standard clutch and brake pedals so maybe you’ve never thought about upgrading.  If you’ve got money you want to invest in your bike, you won’t be sorry springing for Clake motorcycle accessories. Clake’s line of products all focus on making shifting and braking easier and more efficient by installing hand operated controls.  Whether you go with a Clake clutch or a Clake rear brake, your ride will be noticeably smoother.

Pitbull Motorcycle Stands

How secure is your motorcycle kickstand?  If you do any maintenance on your bike you’ll need something a little more sturdy.  Pit Bull motorcycle stands are the cream of the crop in motorcycle security for storage or repairs.  Pair your Pit Bull bike stand with a Pit Bull trailer restraint to keep your bike safe in transport as well.

Furygan Clothing

Nothing blends riding in style and safety like Furygan.  Their line of clothing products is unmatched. Even professional racers choose Furygan apparel because they know there’s nothing else like it.  MotoZ is proud to be the only Furygan dealer in US. Whether you’re looking for a Furygan Jacket, Furygan motorcycle gloves, Furygan boots or any other Furygan clothing, we’ve got you covered.  We’re glad to provide all your Furygan riding apparel in Buffalo NY.

We use the best products for our own bikes and are proud to be able to offer the same to motorcycle enthusiasts all around Buffalo.  Give us a call or drop by the shop to see how we can help get your bike ready for spring!

Charge Up | Benefits of an Electric Motorcycle

Electric motorcycle technology has grown leaps and bounds in the past few years.  Improved battery life and efficiency are two of the biggest reasons why riders all over the world consider electric motorcycles as a viable alternative mode of transportation.  We’ve even seen some of the biggest motorcycle brands start to produce these machines including Harley Davidson, Lightning, and Zero Motorcycles.  If you love to ride you should consider looking into the electric motorcycle market. Here’s a few the benefits you can look forward to if you decided to make the switch.

Need for Speed?

The biggest concern most longtime riders have about electric motorcycles is whether they can match the power of a traditional bike.  Believe it or not, this one problem you don’t have to worry about! The electric motor allows for instant torque meaning electric bikes can actually accelerate faster than their gas powered competitors.

Go Green

It might be an obvious statement but electric motorcycles are better for the environment.  With no smoke emissions, electric bikes will help reduce air pollution which is especially important in larger cities.  If you are looking for a way to get engaged with the “Go Green” initiative, an electric motorbike is a fun place to start.

No Noise

One of the most notable differences between gas powered and electric motorcycles is the sound.  The latter doesn’t have the typical roaring engine or loud exhaust. This makes listening to music and talking with fellow riders significantly easier.  Riders of electric bikes should be extra cautious of their surroundings however as other drivers might not be aware of your presence like they normally would.

Lightweight Design

Electric motorbikes need to carry less weight which can make riding and maneuvering easier.  In particular, if you are a lighter rider, you might find an electric bike easier control.

Low Maintenance

Because of the electric motor, there is no need for several of the high maintenance components of a traditional bike.  Oil changes, spark plugs and air filters are just a few of things you’ll never have to worry about needing to replace or maintain.

No More Gas!

That’s right we saved the best for last!  The best part of owning an electric motorcycle is you’ll never need to stop at the gas station.  It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand how much money you can save. Some people have criticized electric bikes because of the steep initial investment but over time it will prove to be the cheaper option.

Moto Z has been keeping tabs on the electric motorcycle market for years.  We’ve been pleased to be a provider of electric motorbikes in the Buffalo NY area; such as the Zero S electric motorcycle.  Feel to contact us at any time so that we can help get you the best bikes and motorcycle apparel!

Two of the most crucial parts of high performance motorcycle racing is the ability to shift and brake efficiently.  For that reason, professional racers and casual riders alike are customizing their bikes with Clake clutch accessories.

Clake made their name back in 2003 when they started developing left hand rear brake systems.  Since then they’ve come out with different models that merge clutching and braking into one.

If you’re looking for ways to improve the safety and efficiency of your bike, products from Clake Clutch USA are a great place to start.  If you aren’t familiar with the Clake line of products, here’s a short description of a few common models and how they’ll improve your ride.

Clake One Light Clutch

The biggest selling point of the Clake One Light Clutch is it’s easy pull lever.  It’s capable of reducing the force needed to shift by around 75 percent. This improved control makes it the desired clutch system for racers wanting more precision or for riders going over tougher terrain.  Additionally, the easy pull of the Clake One Light Clutch is perfect for older riders who are battling arthritis and other issues with grip strength.

Clake SLR

The Clake SLR is a hand operated rear brake.  Even though you might be comfortable with your rear brake pedal, you may want to consider upgrading to a hand operated braking system.  With the Clake SLR you’ll be able to apply consistent rear braking regardless of bumpy terrain. Additionally, you’ll be able to shift your right leg position to maintain balance at any time without worrying about being able to brake.  Riders find the handbrake most beneficial when taking tight right hand turns or starting a bike on a slope. Simply put the Clake SLR gives you improved control and safety.

Clake One and Clake Two

The Clake One and Clake Two are a combination of the previous two models and use a one or two lever grip respectively.  These levers work by first applying the clutch when pulled and then shifting directly to rear braking. These models are an ideal complement to bikes already fitted with an auto-clutch system.  The biggest difference the Clake Two has over the One is it’s extra hand lever which gives you the option of individual clutching and braking if you need it.

Clake Dual Control System

If losing braking control with your foot is something you’re not willing to give up, then you’re in luck.  The Clake Dual Control System is an optional package that allows braking controls to work with either the left hand lever or your right foot pedal.  This means you’ll be able to swap back and forth as necessary or whenever it’s more convenient. The Dual Control System works with any of the Clake rear brake kits we offer.

At Moto Z we’re all about high performance riding and we strive to provide the best equipment on the market to do so.  When it comes to braking and shifting, nothing tops Clake Clutch USA and their family of products. Their series of left hand braking systems and easy pull clutch levers will make your riding easy and efficient.  If you want control at your fingertips, stop in to Moto Z and get your Clake clutch accessories today!

Winter Motorcycle Storage in Buffalo NY

Buffalo has already received its first big snow of the season.  If you haven’t put your bike up for the winter yet, now is definitely the time.  We all dread this time of year when we have to put our bikes away for a few months, but we know how important it is to properly treat our motorcycles for winter storage.

At Moto Z we offer winter motorcycle storage at our facility, but finding a location to keep your bike is only half the battle.  There’s a lot of care that needs to go into your bike to ensure it’ll survive its hibernation and be ready to go come spring. Here’s a list of 5 key things to remember when preparing your bike for winter.

1. Change Your Fluids

One of the first things you’re going to want to do is check all your fluids.  Refill or replace all brake fluid, coolant, and motor oil as needed. This is an important step to help prevent interior moisture buildup which is quite common with the cold winter air.

2. Top Off the Tank

Next you’ll need to add fresh fuel to the tank before storing.  Add a stabilizer to prevent the gas from deteriorating over the months it’s not running.  Afterwards run the bike for a short time to allow the stabilizer to make its way through your entire fuel system.

3. Check the Battery

Batteries, especially on newer bikes, tend to drain when not in use.  It’s a good idea to remove the battery and put it on a trickle charger.  Alternatively you can keep an eye on it and give it a full charge once a month.  After all, the last thing you’ll want to do is have to replace your battery come spring.

4. Rust Prevention

Winter in Buffalo NY is always cold and wet from all the snow.  This is bad news for motorcycles even if they’re being stored in a shed or garage.  To prevent any rust or other damage from moisture in the air you should take time to add lube to all external moving parts prior to storage.

5. Tire Maintenance

Last but not least you want to keep an eye on your tires.  Sitting around for months in one place can cause tires to develop flat spots.  Put your bike up on stands if you have them, and if you don’t, try rotating your tires regularly to even out the stress to different areas.

These five tasks are the main chores to get done before your motorcycle goes into winter storage but there are more things you can do just to be safe.  Check out our full winter motorcycle storage checklist here to make sure your bike is ready.

If you’re having trouble finding a good spot to store your bike this winter, come down to Moto Z.  We’ll help you get everything taken care of and will provide heated and secure storage during these dreary winter months.

If you’ve followed our shop talk blog in the past you know how seriously we consider rider safety.  In the past we’ve advocated the safety benefits of wearing the best helmets, improving motorcycle visibility, and switching to carbon fiber motorcycle wheels.  Keeping up with that trend, today we want to talk about choosing the safest brand of brake lines, pads and rotors from our friends at Galfer USA.

Galfer USA has been making high performance braking systems for over 70 years now.  Their patented Galfer Wave Rotors have become the standard custom braking systems in the motorcycle industry.  Here’s a few reasons why casual and professional riders alike choose Galfer rotors over anything else.

More Braking Power

Galfer rotors are the preferred brand because of their increased braking power.  Galfer Wave Rotors are designed to ensure optimal contact with the brake pad. Their wave blade design is engineered for the perfect combination of stopping force and feel.

Better Heat Dissipation

The key to providing more braking power stems from improving heat dissipation.  Galfer wave rotors have extra surface area allowing more heat transfer to the surroundings.  This allows the rotors to cool faster and make braking more effective.

Less Warping

Brake rotors often warp because of uneven stress applied from the brake pads while under heat.  The improved heat dissipation of Galfer Wave Rotors reduces the amount of excessive heat and helps eliminate potential for warping.

Cleaner Braking Surface

One of the trademarks of Galfer rotors is the slotted design.  This design helps with heat dissipation but it also keeps your rotors clean.  Slots on the rotors make it harder for dirt, mud and water to stick around and interfere with brake effectiveness.

Resistance to Corrosion

Motorcycle rotors are much thinner than that of other vehicles.  Even the slightest amount of rust can compromise the integrity of your brakes.  Galfer Wave Rotors combat this issue with their stainless steel construction which eliminates any worrying about rust.

Lighter Weight

Lastly, the slotted design and stainless steel construction make Galfer Wave Rotors lighter than most competitors.  Lighter rotors result in less unsprung which is always something riders look for to improve braking performance.

At Moto Z we strive to provide our customers with the best quality motorcycle parts and accessories on the market.  Our line of brake rotors from Galfer USA definitely meets the mark. If you want to upgrade the performance and safety of your bike, check out our website or stop in to see what we have available.  Moto Z is excited to help with your next motorcycle upgrade.
