Charge Up | Benefits of an Electric Motorcycle

Electric motorcycle technology has grown leaps and bounds in the past few years.  Improved battery life and efficiency are two of the biggest reasons why riders all over the world consider electric motorcycles as a viable alternative mode of transportation.  We’ve even seen some of the biggest motorcycle brands start to produce these machines including Harley Davidson, Lightning, and Zero Motorcycles.  If you love to ride you should consider looking into the electric motorcycle market. Here’s a few the benefits you can look forward to if you decided to make the switch.

Need for Speed?

The biggest concern most longtime riders have about electric motorcycles is whether they can match the power of a traditional bike.  Believe it or not, this one problem you don’t have to worry about! The electric motor allows for instant torque meaning electric bikes can actually accelerate faster than their gas powered competitors.

Go Green

It might be an obvious statement but electric motorcycles are better for the environment.  With no smoke emissions, electric bikes will help reduce air pollution which is especially important in larger cities.  If you are looking for a way to get engaged with the “Go Green” initiative, an electric motorbike is a fun place to start.

No Noise

One of the most notable differences between gas powered and electric motorcycles is the sound.  The latter doesn’t have the typical roaring engine or loud exhaust. This makes listening to music and talking with fellow riders significantly easier.  Riders of electric bikes should be extra cautious of their surroundings however as other drivers might not be aware of your presence like they normally would.

Lightweight Design

Electric motorbikes need to carry less weight which can make riding and maneuvering easier.  In particular, if you are a lighter rider, you might find an electric bike easier control.

Low Maintenance

Because of the electric motor, there is no need for several of the high maintenance components of a traditional bike.  Oil changes, spark plugs and air filters are just a few of things you’ll never have to worry about needing to replace or maintain.

No More Gas!

That’s right we saved the best for last!  The best part of owning an electric motorcycle is you’ll never need to stop at the gas station.  It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand how much money you can save. Some people have criticized electric bikes because of the steep initial investment but over time it will prove to be the cheaper option.

Moto Z has been keeping tabs on the electric motorcycle market for years.  We’ve been pleased to be a provider of electric motorbikes in the Buffalo NY area; such as the Zero S electric motorcycle.  Feel to contact us at any time so that we can help get you the best bikes and motorcycle apparel!

Two of the most crucial parts of high performance motorcycle racing is the ability to shift and brake efficiently.  For that reason, professional racers and casual riders alike are customizing their bikes with Clake clutch accessories.

Clake made their name back in 2003 when they started developing left hand rear brake systems.  Since then they’ve come out with different models that merge clutching and braking into one.

If you’re looking for ways to improve the safety and efficiency of your bike, products from Clake Clutch USA are a great place to start.  If you aren’t familiar with the Clake line of products, here’s a short description of a few common models and how they’ll improve your ride.

Clake One Light Clutch

The biggest selling point of the Clake One Light Clutch is it’s easy pull lever.  It’s capable of reducing the force needed to shift by around 75 percent. This improved control makes it the desired clutch system for racers wanting more precision or for riders going over tougher terrain.  Additionally, the easy pull of the Clake One Light Clutch is perfect for older riders who are battling arthritis and other issues with grip strength.

Clake SLR

The Clake SLR is a hand operated rear brake.  Even though you might be comfortable with your rear brake pedal, you may want to consider upgrading to a hand operated braking system.  With the Clake SLR you’ll be able to apply consistent rear braking regardless of bumpy terrain. Additionally, you’ll be able to shift your right leg position to maintain balance at any time without worrying about being able to brake.  Riders find the handbrake most beneficial when taking tight right hand turns or starting a bike on a slope. Simply put the Clake SLR gives you improved control and safety.

Clake One and Clake Two

The Clake One and Clake Two are a combination of the previous two models and use a one or two lever grip respectively.  These levers work by first applying the clutch when pulled and then shifting directly to rear braking. These models are an ideal complement to bikes already fitted with an auto-clutch system.  The biggest difference the Clake Two has over the One is it’s extra hand lever which gives you the option of individual clutching and braking if you need it.

Clake Dual Control System

If losing braking control with your foot is something you’re not willing to give up, then you’re in luck.  The Clake Dual Control System is an optional package that allows braking controls to work with either the left hand lever or your right foot pedal.  This means you’ll be able to swap back and forth as necessary or whenever it’s more convenient. The Dual Control System works with any of the Clake rear brake kits we offer.

At Moto Z we’re all about high performance riding and we strive to provide the best equipment on the market to do so.  When it comes to braking and shifting, nothing tops Clake Clutch USA and their family of products. Their series of left hand braking systems and easy pull clutch levers will make your riding easy and efficient.  If you want control at your fingertips, stop in to Moto Z and get your Clake clutch accessories today!

Winter Motorcycle Storage in Buffalo NY

Buffalo has already received its first big snow of the season.  If you haven’t put your bike up for the winter yet, now is definitely the time.  We all dread this time of year when we have to put our bikes away for a few months, but we know how important it is to properly treat our motorcycles for winter storage.

At Moto Z we offer winter motorcycle storage at our facility, but finding a location to keep your bike is only half the battle.  There’s a lot of care that needs to go into your bike to ensure it’ll survive its hibernation and be ready to go come spring. Here’s a list of 5 key things to remember when preparing your bike for winter.

1. Change Your Fluids

One of the first things you’re going to want to do is check all your fluids.  Refill or replace all brake fluid, coolant, and motor oil as needed. This is an important step to help prevent interior moisture buildup which is quite common with the cold winter air.

2. Top Off the Tank

Next you’ll need to add fresh fuel to the tank before storing.  Add a stabilizer to prevent the gas from deteriorating over the months it’s not running.  Afterwards run the bike for a short time to allow the stabilizer to make its way through your entire fuel system.

3. Check the Battery

Batteries, especially on newer bikes, tend to drain when not in use.  It’s a good idea to remove the battery and put it on a trickle charger.  Alternatively you can keep an eye on it and give it a full charge once a month.  After all, the last thing you’ll want to do is have to replace your battery come spring.

4. Rust Prevention

Winter in Buffalo NY is always cold and wet from all the snow.  This is bad news for motorcycles even if they’re being stored in a shed or garage.  To prevent any rust or other damage from moisture in the air you should take time to add lube to all external moving parts prior to storage.

5. Tire Maintenance

Last but not least you want to keep an eye on your tires.  Sitting around for months in one place can cause tires to develop flat spots.  Put your bike up on stands if you have them, and if you don’t, try rotating your tires regularly to even out the stress to different areas.

These five tasks are the main chores to get done before your motorcycle goes into winter storage but there are more things you can do just to be safe.  Check out our full winter motorcycle storage checklist here to make sure your bike is ready.

If you’re having trouble finding a good spot to store your bike this winter, come down to Moto Z.  We’ll help you get everything taken care of and will provide heated and secure storage during these dreary winter months.

If you’ve followed our shop talk blog in the past you know how seriously we consider rider safety.  In the past we’ve advocated the safety benefits of wearing the best helmets, improving motorcycle visibility, and switching to carbon fiber motorcycle wheels.  Keeping up with that trend, today we want to talk about choosing the safest brand of brake lines, pads and rotors from our friends at Galfer USA.

Galfer USA has been making high performance braking systems for over 70 years now.  Their patented Galfer Wave Rotors have become the standard custom braking systems in the motorcycle industry.  Here’s a few reasons why casual and professional riders alike choose Galfer rotors over anything else.

More Braking Power

Galfer rotors are the preferred brand because of their increased braking power.  Galfer Wave Rotors are designed to ensure optimal contact with the brake pad. Their wave blade design is engineered for the perfect combination of stopping force and feel.

Better Heat Dissipation

The key to providing more braking power stems from improving heat dissipation.  Galfer wave rotors have extra surface area allowing more heat transfer to the surroundings.  This allows the rotors to cool faster and make braking more effective.

Less Warping

Brake rotors often warp because of uneven stress applied from the brake pads while under heat.  The improved heat dissipation of Galfer Wave Rotors reduces the amount of excessive heat and helps eliminate potential for warping.

Cleaner Braking Surface

One of the trademarks of Galfer rotors is the slotted design.  This design helps with heat dissipation but it also keeps your rotors clean.  Slots on the rotors make it harder for dirt, mud and water to stick around and interfere with brake effectiveness.

Resistance to Corrosion

Motorcycle rotors are much thinner than that of other vehicles.  Even the slightest amount of rust can compromise the integrity of your brakes.  Galfer Wave Rotors combat this issue with their stainless steel construction which eliminates any worrying about rust.

Lighter Weight

Lastly, the slotted design and stainless steel construction make Galfer Wave Rotors lighter than most competitors.  Lighter rotors result in less unsprung which is always something riders look for to improve braking performance.

At Moto Z we strive to provide our customers with the best quality motorcycle parts and accessories on the market.  Our line of brake rotors from Galfer USA definitely meets the mark. If you want to upgrade the performance and safety of your bike, check out our website or stop in to see what we have available.  Moto Z is excited to help with your next motorcycle upgrade.

If you’re a motorcycle enthusiast like us, you probably rank motorcycle care as one of your top priorities.  After all, it’s more fun to ride around on something you can show off and be proud of right? If you want to keep your bike in tip-top shape you’re going to want to supplement it with top of line equipment for care and maintenance.  At MotoZ we’re proud to be able to offer you industry leading equipment from Pit Bull. Here’s a look at a couple items from Pit Bull that will make your life easier and keep your motorcycle safe and secure.

Pit Bull Motorcycle Stands

When you first bought your bike it likely came with its own kickstand.  Side-kickstands are fine for keeping your bike standing but aren’t great for doing any routine maintenance or minor repairs.  Whether you’re changing a wheel, giving your bike a thorough cleaning, or even storing it for winter, you’ll be much better served by a paddock stand.

As far as quality is concerned the conversation starts with Pit-Bull’s motorcycle stand.  Since their inception over 20 years ago, Pit Bull has established themselves as the gold standard of motorcycle stands.  Here at MotoZ we stock a variety of top quality Pit Bull motorcycle stand models. No matter what kind of bike you ride, you’ll be able to find something that fits your needs from Pit Bull.

Pit Bull Trailer Restraints

Like Pit Bull motorcycle stands, Pit Bull trailer restraints excel in both safety and convenience.  If you’ve ever loaded your bike onto a trailer to take it to the track or elsewhere, you know that it can be a hassle.  Nobody enjoys fumbling around with clumsy ratchet straps but we deal with it because we know the importance of safely securing our bikes during transportation.  Thankfully, Pit Bull provides a simple solution.

Pit Bull trailer restraints eliminate the need for ratchet straps entirely by securing your bike to the trailer floor.  This allows for extra storage space around your bike now that it isn’t congested with a bunch of straps. Pit Bull trailer restraints are also better for your bike because it removes the stress applied to your suspension commonly seen with ratchet straps.  These restraints attach to your axle and are then locked into the floor. This is not only better for your bike but it also makes loading and unloading a breeze. All you need to do is walk your bike into the trailer until it locks into place. Simple as that.

Are you passionate about your motorcycle?  If so you’ll want to supplement it with top quality products like a Pit Bull motorcycle stand.  As Buffalo’s only supplier of Pit Bull motorcycle accessories, MotoZ is ready to help you get the premium equipment you need for your bike.  Check out what we have in stock online or in our store and give us a call today. We look forward to hearing from you!

If you’re a motorcycle enthusiast like us you know that riding a motorcycle is different from any other form of transportation.  Your body being exposed directly to the elements increases both the thrill and satisfaction of a ride which is why we all love it. However, this exposure increases the danger as well.

At Moto Z we’re extremely concerned about motorcycle safety which is why we’re the only U.S. based company to stock Furygan apparel; one of the industry leaders in motorcycle safety clothing.  When it comes to protecting your body in the event of an accident people like to dwell on the importance of a helmet, but realistically all of your riding gear works together to keep you safe. Here’s a quick overview of some Furygan apparel that just might save your life someday.

Furygan Jacket

The first thing you think of when it comes to riding apparel is likely the motorcycle jacket.  Furygan motorcycle jackets are much more than just aesthetically pleasing clothing, they’re designed intentionally for safety and comfort.  Furygan jackets come in various styles, such as race jackets and the more traditional vintage leather jacket, but they also come with added safety features.  Extra D30 armor padding around the elbows and shoulder areas will make you less likely to sustain a serious injury.

Furygan Motorcycle Gloves

Your first instinct when in a motorcycle accident, especially if you’re a new rider, is going to be to want brace for the fall with your hand.  Obviously you’re going to need some form of protection for your hands and that’s where Furygan gloves come into play.

When Furygan was founded in 1969 they focused on designing motorcycle gloves with ergonomics and safety in mind.  Furygan motorcycle gloves come with added padding to reduce vibrations in your hands as well as extra armor around the joints to lower the risk of broken fingers in the event of an accident.

Furygan Boots

Don’t underestimate the need to protect your feet while riding as well. Studies have shown that 30% of injuries sustained while riding are to the driver’s feet and legs.  Oftentimes in a motorcycle slide, your foot/ankle is going to be the first thing to hit the pavement. Furygan boots offer reinforced heel and toe areas as well as extra D30 padding around the ankles to help your feet withstand a sudden impact.

Furygan Trousers

It’s common to just assume that a sturdy pair of jeans will provide enough protection while riding but there are some subtle differences between jeans and actual motorcycle pants.  For example, most motorcycle trousers are designed to be a second layer of clothing with additional padding around the vulnerable knee and hip areas.

The wide variety of Furygan trousers available will keep you protected while still fitting your style.  Whether you’re looking for standard pair of riding pants or want something that’ll look more like casual jeans, like the Furygan jean 01, there’s a pair of Furygan trousers out there that are right for you.

If you’ve followed our blog in the past you know that we like to keep up with some of the new industry trends but also have solid focus on motorcycle safety.  We’re proud to be distributors of some of the best motorcycle safety apparel with our selection of Furygan clothing. Now’s the time to be proactive about your riding safety and Moto Z can help.  Check out our selection of products online or stop in to see what we have available in store today!

Here at Moto Z, we’re motorcycle enthusiasts just like you.  We enjoy the fun stuff, like going fast and testing the limits of the new Zero S electric motorcycle, but we also have a healthy respect for motorcycle safety.  With thousands of motorcycle accidents occurring each year it’s important to take a step back and ask yourself if you are being as safe as possible while on the road.  Are you aware that over 70 percent of motorcycle accidents each year involve a collision with another vehicle? Furthermore, almost 40 percent of those collisions are caused by low motorcycle visibility.

The bottom line is motorcyclists are at a disadvantage when it comes to being noticed on the road.  Driving a smaller vehicle makes it easier to blend in with the surrounding or to get stuck in a car’s blind spot.  Additionally, the increased maneuverability and quicker acceleration and braking times can catch other drivers off guard if they aren’t familiar with motorcycles.  Fortunately there are several steps you can take to ensure other drivers will notice you. Here’s a few tips to consider that could help you avoid a costly accident and just might save your life.

Color/Design Scheme

When deciding what color or style bike to purchase our preferences tend to take over.  We’re often more focused on the aesthetics instead of safety. At the end of the day, the color and design of your bike will be the most contributing factor to your conspicuity while riding.  The safest recommendations are bright colors and designs involving contrast because they’re harder blend in with the surroundings. Even if you insist on having a darker color motorcycle, don’t worry; there are still several things you can do to make yourself more visible on the road.

Clothing and Helmets

If you watch someone riding a motorcycle you might notice that the body of the rider is just as visible as the bike itself.  Even if you’re riding a darker bike you can still use your riding gear to attract attention. The easiest way to stand out is with a bright contrasting helmet because not only is it a large portion of your profile but it sits higher up in the field of vision of other drivers.  Incorporating color into your other gear as well like your jacket, gloves, and boots can go a long way toward keeping you safe. At the very least you should consider wearing a reflective vest over your jacket at night and during other low visibility conditions.

Adding Additional Lights

Obviously riding at night is more dangerous because of the lack of available light.  Adding additional lighting to the front and back of your bike will not only make it easier for you to see at night, but will also give you more ways to grab attention and signal your intentions to other drivers.  Quickly blinking your brake lights or flashing extra headlights will be easily noticed and can remind other cars that you’re still there.

Reflective Tape

Along the same line as additional lights, adding reflective tape will make you stand out and look cool at the same time.  Placing tape around the border of your bike and on parts that stick out, like your rims and forks, will make it easy for other drivers to identify the entire shape of your bike.  The great thing about reflective tape is that you can get it in just about any color. You can get reflective tape to match your paint job so that it will blend in during the day but keep you safe by night.

Whether you’re cruising around on your old Harley, a sleek Zero S electric, or a stylish new Ducati motorcycle, your safety is what matters most. At Moto Z we know the importance of keeping you safe and we strive to supply you with top of the line accessories, like our selection of Furygan riding apparel.  Going unnoticed while riding is not fun and could result in serious injury so take the necessary precautions today before something bad happens. Shop online with Moto Z to get exclusive Furygan apparel and other products that will boost your motorcycle visibility.

Carbon fiber motorcycle wheels have been on the scene for around a decade. Leading companies in the industry, like BST (BlackStone Tek), have utilized this new material to develop new and improved motorcycle wheels.  However, many consumers today think of carbon fiber motorcycle rims as a luxury item that is purely aesthetic. In reality, carbon fiber wheels provide a wide array of benefits when it comes to overall performance compared to traditional aluminum and magnesium frames.  Here’s a few facts to consider when looking to upgrade your motorcycle wheels:

Probably the greatest thing about carbon fiber is that it’s an incredibly lightweight material.  This alone has a huge impact on motorcycle performance as you are reducing the unsprung weight of the bike.  Less weight translates directly to a faster acceleration, better fuel efficiency, and quicker break times.

Added Control

Additionally, less weight leads to lower rotational inertia in the wheel.  Without getting too technical, this is just means that your wheel is going to be less resistant to a change in direction.  Easier turning means you’ll have more control over your bike as you’re riding which is a great way to keep safe while on the road.

Believe it or not, carbon fiber actually has one of the highest strength-to-weight ratios of all materials.  This is what makes carbon fiber motorcycle rims so extremely durable. Carbon fiber motorcycle wheels will have no issues running over bumps and potholes, where as the typical aluminum and magnesium rims may be prone to warp and bend from repeated sudden sharp impacts.

If you’re looking to boost your bike’s performance, why not consider custom carbon motorcycle wheels for an all-around upgrade.  Located in Buffalo, we at Moto Z have established ourselves as one of the premier distributors in all of WNY. We carry everything you might need including the industry leading BST carbon fiber wheels.  Feel free to give us a call or drop by today and see what we have in stock.
